Kilometer are made from pork and spiced with paprika and cayenne pepper for a little heat. They’re smoked in natural casings over natural maple hardwood to develop a rich, smoky taste that makes this sausage pair well with other bold German flavors like horseradish, mustard, and sauerkraut.
Kilometer come fully cooked and ready to eat, hot or cold. These sausages can be cubed and served as appetizers with chunks of cheese. It’s also delicious served warm, either grilled or pan fried, then cut into pieces for appetizers or served in a bun topped with mustard and sauerkraut. Horseradish also makes a great condiment if you’re looking for an added zip.
Will keep without freezing; it will only air dry in refrigerator, and will remain fresh up to 3 weeks. Sausages need air circulation, and keep best when wrapped in paper towel once opened. Otherwise, leave unopened in vacuum-sealed packaging. Should vacuum packaging become loose—indicating an air leak—remove immediately and wrap in paper towel.
Can also be frozen for up to 2 months without affecting flavor or quality. Defrost slowly in refrigerator; do not thaw at room temperature.
